Hello Aidwatchers,

This week marks the crunch time for the World Trade Organisation's Doha
round of negotiations. We are encouraging our friends and members to send a
strong message to Australia's trade minister that no deal is better than a
bad deal.

AID/WATCH has recently said farewell to Co-director, Kate Wheen after over
two years of excellent work. Kate's contributions to the organisation have
been a vital part of our many achievements in this time. We wish her all the
best in her new endeavors.

AID/WATCH is pleased to welcome our new fundraiser and membership
coordinator, Azedah Etminan to the team. To contact Azedah email
ozzie at aidwatch.org.au

In other office news, we have made some changes to our email system. The
general AID/WATCH email is now info at aidwatch.org.au and Co-director's
contacts are flint at aidwatch.org.au and lara at aidwatch.org.au

This week marks the crunch time for the World Trade Organisation's Doha
round of negotiations. The talks are aiming to establish guidelines for
global trade in agriculture, manufactured goods and services. Developing
countries, faced with an unfair deal are demanding that the outcomes reflect
the development aims the negotiations were based upon. Send a letter to
Australia's trade minister to let him know your concerns about the talks and
reinforce that no deal is better than a bad deal.

Campaigner and academic Prof. Anu Muhammad recently toured with AID/WATCH to
speak about the impact of climate change in Bangladesh and local struggles
to prevent the ADB funding destructive, climate-intensive development
projects. If you missed the speaking tour here is your chance to view Prof.
Anu's talk online. The powerpoint presentation which accompanied the talk is

=2> ACTION: Letter Writing Appeal to Support the People of Phulbari,
Bangladesh in opposing the Phulbari Coal Project

The proposed Phulbari Coal Project in Bangladesh is one of the most
contentious and ill-conceived development projects the Asian Development
Bank (ADB) has ever considered funding. Anu Muhammad has asked AID/WATCH and
our supporters to help the people of Phulbari by writing to Australia's
Governor to the ADB, Treasurer Wayne Swan to ask him to show leadership by
opposing this project within the Asian Development Bank.
