2. ACTION: Letter Writing Appeal to Support the People of Phulbari,
Bangladesh in opposing the Phulbari Coal Project
The proposed Phulbari Coal Project in Bangladesh is one of the most
contentious and ill-conceived development projects the Asian Development
Bank (ADB) has ever considered funding. AID/WATCH is asking you to write to
Australia's Governor to the ADB, Treasurer Wayne Swan and Australia’s ADB
Executive Director Phil Bowen and ask them to show leadership by opposing
this project when it comes before the ADB board on June 3, 2008.

and Pacific countries in an attempt to boost economic development and
political stability among its regional neighbours. The government hopes that

that Pacific countries could be hurt by an FTA if they could not compete
with their wealthy neighbours.

4. ARTICLE: Aid is increasing, but can we spend it well?
AID/WATCH Co-director Kate Wheen and Co-Director of Jubilee Australia
Stephanie Lusby have thrown their two cents into an online debate at the
Lowy Institute on the question "The Rudd Government is lifting aid to 0.5
per cent of GDP, but do we have the capacity to spend it wisely?"
