3.         AID/WATCH in the News: Aid money being 'wasted'

Towards the end of May, there was a lot of attention on the effectiveness of Australian aid. Click on links below for comments by AID/WATCH on the Australian aid program, including the recently released review of Australia's aid to PNG, which was critical of the fact the significant portion of Australian aid money was being spent on consultants and advisors with limited impact on reducing poverty.

On 15 and 16 June, AID/WATCH's case to restore its charity status was heard before the High Court. The decision will likely have widespread ramifications for the entire charitable sector.

5.   Event: Muckaty Traditional Owners speak out against the nuclear waste dump

The Federal Government is planning to transport radioactive waste from the Sydney nuclear reactor and impose a dump at Muckaty Station, Northern Territory, without consent from the local community or those affected along the transport route. People from the Muckaty Land Trust are saying no to the nuclear waste dump.Speakers include: Muckaty Traditional Owners Dianne Stokes, Mark Chungaloo, Gladys Brown and Mark Lane, Human rights lawyer George Newhouse; Jim Casey, State Secretary of the Fire Brigade Employees' Union
