*2.***_*Media Release: Aid review delivers report -- can it deliver the
goods?*_

AID/WATCH welcomed the government's response to the Independent Review
of Aid Effectiveness, but noted that it falls short in a number of
areas. AID/WATCH expressed concern that 'national interest' continues to
be used as a criterion for determining allocation of aid, and expressed
disappointment that the Government has not committed to establishing
AusAID as a separate department with a cabinet-level minister for aid
and development.

*3.***_*Update: Make Aid Transparent Campaign *_

On 7 July, the first handover of the Make Aid Transparent petition
signed by 5012 people from 115 countries took place at a crucial meeting
of aid officials at the headquarters of the Organisation of Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris.

Launched in June, the campaign is currently endorsed by 76 civil society
organisations including AID/WATCH. It will culminate at the Fourth High
Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, Korea, at the end of the year
where donors will be judged on their progress towards keeping increasing
the transparency of their aid programs.

*4.***_*Give Development a Human Face, say Pacific Civil Society Leaders*_

A Pacific regional meeting on aid and development effectiveness in July
called for people to be put at the centre of development. Pacific civil
society leaders emphasised the need for aid and development to be
people-centred, respect human rights, and achieve social justice.
