Hello Aidwatchers,
This Thursday the 30th, starting 6.30pm at the Mechanics School of Arts, 280
Pitt St. Sydney CBD is AID/WATCH’s short film night, “The Fight for Land
Rights”. In addition to the short films on land we are privileged to have
Barbara Shaw, a Kaytetye-Arrernte woman from NT prescribed community, Mount
Nancy speaking on the Northern Territory intervention.
If you can’t make it this Thursday I hope to see you at one of our other
exciting upcoming events.

1. EVENT: The Fight for Land short film night
On Thursday the 30th October AID/WATCH invites you to a night of
documentaries on grassroots struggles for land rights in Cambodia, Mexico
and Papua New Guinea. The evening includes an introduction from some of the
documentary makers and an AID/WATCH update on land reform in the aid
program.
When: Thursday 30th October 6.30-9pm
Where: Sydney Mechanics School of Arts, 280 Pitt St, Sydney CBD
Cost: $10 concession, $15 Waged.

President”
Following the long awaited November election of a new American president,
come and share your memories of the Bush administration that proved almost
anyone can be President. Our hosts Captain Belligerent and Cute Boy return
to delve into your knowledge of Bush-isms and faux-pas! Dinner and drinks
will be available for purchase.

5. ARTICLE: The David vs. Goliath Battle Continues: Putting EU business
ahead of Pacific Development
Pacific trade officials have returned from the latest round of negotiations
for a new Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union
(talks were held in Brussels last month) with all signs indicating the EU is
placing its business interests ahead of development in the Pacific… again!

6. EVENT: Oxfam’s Sisters on the Planet Launch
You are invited to join Oxfam and Make Poverty History for the launch of six
short films about the power of women against climate change.
Helen (Australia), Ursula (Papua New Guinea), Sahena (Bangladesh), Muriel
(Brazil), Melissa (UK) and Martina (Uganda) live on different sides of the
planet, but are united against climate change. Join Oxfam in hearing their
stories, and meet women who are committed to facing up to this unprecedented
global challenge.
