Position Vacant - AID/WATCH Campaigner
Aid for trade campaign in the Pacific
AID/WATCH is an independent, membership-based watchdog of aid and
development policies and programs. We are seeking to employ a campaigner to
join our existing team and facilitate a campaign on aid for trade in the
Pacific.
Funding is currently available for part-time position (22.5 hours per wk)
for a period of 20 weeks, with the possibility that this position can be
extended depending on funding and the suitability of the candidate. The
position will be reviewable in conjunction with a performance development
review after a one-month probationary period. The position is based in
Sydney.
Specific Responsibilities:
. Facilitate the implementation of AID/WATCH's pacific aid for trade
campaign in line with AID/WATCH's own strategic planning;
. Help build a strong team of capable and dedicated active members to
work on AID/WATCH campaigns both within the office and nationally;
. Help organise regular AID/WATCH volunteers and members information
sessions to provide updates on campaigns;
. Undertake public speaking engagements to inform people about AID/WATCH
and our campaigns;
. Build and maintain existing relationships that AID/WATCH has with
government and NGO organisations in Australia and overseas;
. Assist with the production of research and publications associated with
this campaign;
. Assist with fundraising and act on fundraising opportunities that arise
within the campaign area;
. Help build a strong media profile for the AID/WATCH campaign in
collaboration with existing staff,
. Liaise with the Committee of Management and Executive as required
. Some national and international travel may be required
Essential knowledge and skills:
. Experience of working in a member-based organization
. Experience of organising and mobilising members and the public for
social change
. Experience in campaigning on social and environmental justice issues
. Demonstrated capacity to be self-directed and work independently;
. Experience working in solidarity with communities and counterparts in
the global south
. Ability to work in a team with an open and consensus style of
communication;
. Excellent oral communication skills including in a cross-cultural
context;
. High level research and writing skills to be applied in a campaign
context;
Desirable skills and knowledge:
. Understanding of aid or trade issues or development issues relevant to
the Pacific
. Experience in advocacy and campaign organisations;
. Understanding of and experience with budget planning, fundraising and
financial management;
. Experience in project management, particularly as it relates to
campaign coordination
. Strong understanding of issues relevant to AID/WATCH
Salary: 22.5 hours per week at $52,439 per annum pro rata for a period of 20
weeks
